‘’PCD’S ARE THE BOMB RIPPED THAT COATING OFF REALLY WELL’’

When time is of the essence on a government bridge concrete coating - resurfacing project it’s all about the diamonds, the machines and an awesome team of operators.

Fast, furious and effective. That’s exactly what the diamond tooling on the Schwamborn Concrete Floor Grinding machines can be. Done right concrete floor preparation is an easy process but until you understand diamond tooling and the effectiveness of the right diamonds on your floor – you may struggle!

Global Road Maintenance Solutions is a team with years of experience in concrete and road resurfacing, kicking goals on this iconic concrete coating removal - concrete resurfacing project.  https://www.safetsurfaces.com.au/

Here onsite at the Goodwill Bridge concrete resurfacing project the DSM800RC Schwamborn Remote Controlled Concrete Floor Grinder made tough jobs easy running along with the newly developed PCD Diamond grinding shoes rip through the existing thick coating getting back to bare concrete.

This process ensured the coating was removed in a single application as a time and cost saving process in the preparation of the concrete surface ready to reapply a coating.

PCD Diamonds is the term for Polycrystalline diamonds. Designed for a high speed, fast, aggressive removal of glues , paints , coatings or epoxies – thicker than around 3mm and for any product that is sticky or sensitive and may reactivate when gone over with a concrete floor grinder and standard diamond tool – including a wheel or diamond grinding shoe.

The Schwamborn Concrete Floor Grinding System offers a wide range of diamond tooling including PCD Diamond shoes, Bush Hammer rotating attachments, and a wide range of diamond shoes from super soft through to super hard for the toughest of concrete applications.

The key to success in concrete floor preparation is maximum productivity – and minimum time – to perfect the finish every time. All Preparation Equipment offers a diamond tooling system which works alongside any of the conversion plates for Husqvarna and Schwamborn style grinding machines to;

  • Saves time in changing diamonds
  • Gives a greater flexibility with diamonds
  • Saves time in preparation and removal
  • Allows the dust to flow around the diamond to help give a longer life

Productivity, speed and the finish are all dependent on the configuration the diamonds are set up on, under your machine. Generally on the Base of the Schwamborn Grinders – there is opportunity for 2 different configurations – ½ or a Full plate.

Metal Bond Diamonds, is the term suggesting that diamonds are fixed in a metal compound. These diamonds are used for coarse to medium grinding applications from a 16 to a 150 grit finish.

The Grit – is the term for the size of the diamonds. The less segments the more aggressive. The more segments the less aggressive and in turn the smoother the finish. Diamond grit refers to the finishing qualities of the diamond.

Grinding with the Schwamborn Concrete Floor Grinder the most common cut is with a 20/30 or 40/60 grit Knock on diamond grinding shoe. Coarser or lower the grit – the sharper and faster the cut will be. Finer grits will create a smooth surface and slow down the productivity, but will work in the finishing or polishing process.

Usually, 60-80 grit shoes are used in the process of polishing with 100-150 being a final cut prior to resin backed polishing pads and the adaptor plate to hold these in place.
