WHAT IS MECHANICALLY POLISHED CONCRETE?

Mechanically polished concrete is a beautiful, impressive flooring finish that retains it's impression and lustre and hardness without any polyurethane coating or epoxy floor coating.

WHAT IS POLISHED CONCRETE?

Polished concrete is created by using heavy-duty polishing machines, outfitted with progressively finer grits of diamond-impregnated segments or disks, to gradually hone down concrete surfaces. This method, comparable to using sandpaper, allows the crew to create the desired shine and smoothness.

It begins with coarse diamond segments, bonded in a metallic matrix. Just like sandpaper, these segments remove minor pits, blemishes, stains, and light coatings from the floor.

Depending on the condition of the concrete, this initial rough grinding is usually a three to four-step process. Next, diamond abrasives embedded in a plastic or resin matrix are used to "fine grind" the floor. Contractors use ever-finer grits of polishing disks until the floor has the desired sheen. If an extremely high-gloss finish is required, a final grit of 1500 or finer may be used.

An experienced polishing concrete flooring crew will know when to switch to a finer grit by studying the floor surface and observing the amount of material being removed. A chemical hardener or densifier is then used to penetrate the concrete, creating a reaction that hardens and dust-proofs the surface.

The result is a floor surface that is stunning, durable, easy to clean with an effective maintenance system to maintain the shine that you initially create.

WHY IS POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORING FAST BECOMING THE PREFERRED FLOORING SYSTEM OVER OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE MARKET?

  • Strengthening of floor surface
  • Provides excellent penetration
  • Greater abrasion resistance
  • Elimination of dusting from efflorescence
  • Stain resistance
  • Improved reflectivity and ambient lighting
  • Added slip resistance
  • Improved condition for old floors
  • Reduced tire wear
  • Less maintenance
  • Customisable system
  • Green Star Council of Australia friendly

UNLIMITED OPTIONS,

YOU ARE ONLY LIMITED TO YOUR IMAGINATION!

  • Coloured aggregate can be applied to the concrete mix, or seeded onto the top layer for a unique finish
  • Tints and colour can be added to the concrete to match brand colours, create logos, and enhance visual appeal
  • Glass can be seeded into the mix. When polished, the glass pieces are exposed in the floor
  • Coins, nails, bolts, computer chips, and many other objects can be seeded into the mix and polished smooth - this allows for a myriad of unique and fun flooring options!

And here's a tip! You don't need new concrete to polish it. If the concrete floor is solid and structurally sound, it can be polished.

DENSIFIERS, SEALERS AND THE CHEMICAL

With a lot of options for concrete densifiers and sealers in the market nowadays a lot of options are a manufacturer's product rebranded. It's important to consider when buying your polished concrete densifier you're buying it from a company that has used, experienced and developed the chemicals in achieving a mechanically polished concrete floor ? to perfection.
